USACOE

 

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) serves the Armed Forces & Nation by providing vital engineering services & capabilities, as a public service, across the full spectrum of operations - from peace to war - in support of national interests.

USCG
The smallest of the seven uniformed services of the U.S. Its mission is to protect the public, the environment, and the U.S. economic and security interests in any maritime region in which those interests may be at risk, including international waters and America's coasts, ports, and inland waterways.

 

The PLANTS Database provides a single source of standardized information about plants. PLANTS provides standardized plant names, symbols and other plant attribute information.

EPA
The mission of the Environmental Protection Agency is to protect human health and the environment. Since 1970, EPA has been working for a cleaner, healthier environment for the American people.
 
Prehistoric mounds are common from the plains of the Midwest to the Atlantic seaboard, but only in this general area were they constructed in an effigy outline of mammals, birds, or reptiles. The Monument contains 1,481 acres with 200 mounds, 29 effigies, the others are conical, linear, and compound.

 


To provide for public benefits associated with fish, wildlife, and wild areas, by preserving the Upper Mississippi River floodplain ecosystem for the enjoyment and use of this and future generations.

The USGS serves the Nation by providing reliable scientific information to describe and understand the Earth; minimize loss of life and property from natural disasters; manage water, biological, energy, and mineral resources; and enhance and protect our quality of life. The Environmental Center freely shares a wide range of biological, physical, spatial, and technical data and information relating to the Upper Mississippi River System.

Originally established by Congress in 1935 as the Soil Conservation Service (SCS), NRCS has expanded to become a conservation leader for all natural resources, ensuring private lands are conserved, restored, and more resilient to environmental challenges, like climate change.

Established in 1905, the Forest Service is an agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The Forest Service manages public lands in national forests and grasslands.

Gifford Pinchot, the first Chief of the Forest Service, summed up the mission of the Forest Service— "to provide the greatest amount of good for the greatest amount of people in the long run."

AFS
The American Fisheries Society (AFS) is the world's oldest & largest organization dedicated to strengthening the fisheries profession, advancing fisheries science, & conserving fisheries resources.

 

Our national network of community-based nature centers and chapters, scientific and educational programs, and advocacy on behalf of areas sustaining important bird populations, engage millions of people of all ages and backgrounds in positive conservation experiences.

 

DU
Ducks Unlimited conserves, restores and manages wetlands and associated habitats for North America's waterfowl. These habitats also benefit other wildlife and people.

MRRC is a private, non-profit organization supported by its members and by cooperating agencies, institutions, and corporations. Membership is open to all interested parties. MRRC members want to encourage both pure and applied research on the water and land resources of the Mississippi River and its watershed.

Mississippi Valley Conservancy (MVC) is a regional, non-profit land trust based in La Crosse that has permanently conserved more than 11,700 acres of blufflands, prairies, wetlands, and streams in southwestern Wisconsin since its founding in 1997. MVC works with private landowners and local communities on voluntary conservation projects in seven counties along the Mississippi River.

 

The Northeast-Midwest Institute is a nonprofit and public education organization that seeks to enhance the region's economic vitality and environmental quality. It conducts research, develops public policies, provides technical assistance, sponsors regional conferences, and distributes publications.

The Mississippi River Parkway Commission (MRPC) is a multi-state organization which works collectively to preserve, promote, and enhance the scenic, historic, and recreational resources of the Mississippi River, to foster economic growth in the corridor, and to develop the national, scenic and historic parkway known as the Great River Road.
 

Prairie Rivers Network is Illinois' only statewide river protection nonprofit. PRN promotes the preservation of pristine rivers, the restoration of polluted rivers, and protection of drinking water, native fish and riverside wildlife, with the goal of safeguarding resources for future generations.

The CNR at UWSP concentrates on the studies of Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Paper Science & Engineering, Soil & Waste Resources, Water Resources & Fisheries, and Wildlife Management.

 

 

The Illinois State Water Survey, a division of the IL DNR, is the primary agency concerned with water and atmospheric resources. Water Survey research and service programs assess and evaluate the quantity, quality, and use of ground, surface, and atmospheric water resources in the state.

INHS - Since 1858, the Illinois Natural History Survey has been the guardian and recorder of the biological resources of Illinois.

The Lower Mississippi River Conservation Committee is an organization of 9 member states dedicated to the wise utilization and conservation of the lower Mississippi River.

 

MICRA

MICRA is an organization of 28 states formed in 1991 to improve interjurisdictional river resource management in the Mississippi River Basin.

Friends of the Mississippi River is a member supported non-profit whose mission is to protect and enhance the Mississippi River and its watershed in Minnesota's Twin Cities metropolitan area. Our efforts focus on improving water quality, conserving riverfront land and enhancing the historical and recreational values of this great natural wonder that flows through our community.
